No Coding? Sooooo Last Year. Enter Vibe Coding!

There’s a new kind of software development emerging, and it’s not about designing features, gathering requirements and planning. It doesn’t involve any designing, debugging, or following structured workflows either.

It’s called Vibe Coding and it’s the new hot buzzword on X. It’s literal in nomenclature—developers and absolute novices alike are just vibing with AI, throwing out ideas, watching things happen, and rolling with the punches.

At first, it sounds ridiculous. Code isn’t meant to be written based on a feeling, right? There should be architecture, logic, best practices, maybe even a project brief. But what if that’s just old-school thinking and this is how shit is going down from now on?

What is Vibe Coding?

Traditional coding follows a structured process:

  • Define a problem
  • Design the solution
  • Code
  • Debug and test
  • Iterate

Vibe coding throws all that out of the window. Instead, you:

  1. Open your IDE (usually Cursor).
  2. Start describing whatever you think should happen.
  3. Accept whatever changes AI suggests. No need to read the diffs, just “Accept all”.
  4. If something breaks, copy-paste the error into the AI, and it’ll probably fix it.
  5. If the AI doesn’t fix it? Keep jammin’ until AI resolves the issue.

Andrej Karpathy, previous of Tesla and OpenAI, is probably the first to coin the term, posting on X, “There’s a new kind of coding I call ‘vibe coding’, where you fully give in to the vibes, embrace exponentials, and forget that the code even exists.

The code doesn’t even matter anymore. You’re no longer writing code—you’re guiding AI to generate the right vibe.

No Plan? No Problem.

Vibe Coding isn’t just for developers. Creatives, entrepreneurs, and people who don’t know (or care) about software development are jumping in. They don’t need a roadmap—they just let AI build.

Ryo Lu, Head of Design at Cursor, is getting involved too, describing it on X, “You start with the idea. You build and let it evolve, iterating in all dimensions. You reach the right vibe. AI reverse engineers your product strategy and revises your plans.

Think about that for a second. You don’t start with a strategy—you start with a vibe, and AI figures out what you’re actually building. That’s a fundamental shift in how products come to life.

A New Form of Agile?

For years, Agile software development has focused on iteration, flexibility, and response to change. The objective was always expediency; getting MVPs and projects to market in a much quicker way than the old school waterfall method where it could literally take years to build something.

It worked because in software development, it’s difficult to have a clear view of the product from the very outset, and the product evolves as it moves through the development cycle.

But Vibe Coding is even faster—it skips any sort of structure entirely. There are no user stories, no backlogs, no sprints, no project plan, no brief, no design.

Instead, you:

  • Build something.
  • See how it feels.
  • Adjust in real-time.
  • Keep going.

A weekend project that used to take weeks of planning? Now, it’s a few hours of vibing with AI.

The Future of Software, or Just a Meme?

Vibe Coding feels exciting, chaotic, and slightly dangerous—but isn’t that how all breakthroughs start? Sure, it might not replace structured development for mission-critical systems, but for prototyping, side projects, and indie hacking, it’s an absolute game-changer.

As AI tools get better, faster, and more intuitive, expect to see more people building without coding—not just no-coders, but no-plan, no-rules, just vibes coders.

And who knows? Maybe the first one-person unicorn won’t come from a meticulous founder with a perfectly crafted business plan. Maybe it’ll come from someone who just let AI handle it—and somehow, it all worked out.
